About This Offer

Recorded on Coming About, "El Viento" was commissioned in 1994 by the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra. It was written after I heard Paco de Lucia play at Lincoln Center. I'd felt very inspired by flamenco, and touches of that have come in and out of my music ever since.

This piece has elements of classical music, and a long build that extends through three solos. It requires a band with some real skill and chops. You will want to be sure you have two trumpet players with high chops, with one of them being able to deliver a flamenco style scream solo and the other to handle the lead part in that section (concert Fs and F#s).

One thing to note, the first solo (guitar) can also be played on tenor. I've included an accordion part (optional) if you find yourself doing other pieces of mine with accordion and therefore want to include it.
