About This Offer “Punjab” was written in 1964, originally intended for the Individualism of Gil Evans album. Gil and the band had rehearsed it in the studio, but Gil wasn’t happy with the performance, so it wasn’t included on the album. After some time spent studying the piece, trying to come up with a way to make this piece blossom, we recorded on our album in celebration of Gil’s 100th birthday in 2012 called, CENTENNIAL: Newly Discovered Works of Gil Evans on ArtistShare®.

As with all of Gil’s music, close attention needs to be paid to the instrumentation, as it rarely resembles a standard big band. The instrumentation for “Punjab” is as follows:

4 Reeds:
        Reed 1:  Alto Saxophone
        Reed 2:  Alto Flute
        Reed 3:  English Horn, Oboe
        Reed 4:  Bassoon
1 Tenor Violin (has substitute part for Cello)
1 French Horn
3 Trumpets
2 Trombones (1 tenor tbn/1 bass tbn)
4 Rhythm (Gtr./Pno./Bass/Dms.)
1 Tabla

Solos include: Tabla, Piano, and Reed 1 (alto sax).

In addition to the score and parts, you will also receive supplemental videos in which I explain the unique history behind my discovery of this "lost" work as well as how I rehearse each of these pieces. I will let you know the potential tripping spots and the way to make each piece come alive. I've worked on bringing this music back to life for a very long time, and it is very easy for me to now predict the areas that need addressing. I am confident that I can help you bring this music to the highest level with your own group.
